About this Event

The Italian Cultural Institute of Washington in collaboration with the Music Program of the Corcoran School of the Arts and Design at the Columbia College of Arts and Sciences of The George Washington University, invites you to a harpsichord concert dedicated to Baroque Italian music from the age of Piranesi in the company of harpsichordist Patrick Merrill and the presentation of the exhibition catalogue and interactive website for "".

The exhibition “Piranesi’s Rome: Views of the Eternal City“, curated by Professor Rachel Pollack and Olivia Kohler-Maga, Assistant Director of the Brady Art Gallery, showcases 18th century masterful etchings in The George Washington University Collection, currently on display on our premises.

ABOUT PATRICK MERRILL
Patrick Merrill is a harpsichordist, organist, and pianist based in Washington, DC, where he is active as a solo and collaborative keyboard recitalist, choral conductor, and educator. In addition to performing a wide variety of solo and ensemble repertoire, Dr. Merrill is a passionate practitioner and advocate of historical improvisation. Dr. Merrill completed his Doctor of Musical Arts in harpsichord performance at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, where he studied with Dr. Adam Pearl. In 2016, he won second prize at the eighth Mae and Irving Jurow International Harpsichord Competition. His chamber and continuo work includes performances with Washington Bach Consort, Pro Musica Rara, Tempesta di Mare, Handel Choir of Baltimore, the Bach in Baltimore series, Modern Musick, Mountainside Baroque, Pressenda Chamber Players, and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. In addition to teaching at George Washington University, Dr. Merrill serves on the faculty at the Baltimore School for the Arts, and as the organist and director of music at St. Stephen Martyr Catholic Church in Washington, DC.
