October 18 is both Persons Day and World Menopause Day.
This special afternoon gathering is designed to celebrate women’s achievements, highlight important milestones in history, and provide valuable knowledge and support around health and wellness during menopause and perimenopause.
Persons Day
Marks the historic 1929 decision by Canada’s highest court of appeal to legally include women in the definition of “persons,” allowing women to sit in the Senate of Canada and opening doors for greater political and public participation. The Famous Five, five courageous Alberta women, led this legal challenge, achieving success for all Canadian women.
World Menopause Day
Created in 2009 by the International Menopause Society to raise awareness of menopause and perimenopause, this day highlights the challenges women face during the transition and shines a spotlight on improvements in research, education, and support.
