Devising Physical Theatre — Term 4
What happens when the world changes — and we have to change with it?
This term, MOVE shifts from training into creating and performing an original piece of physical theatre.
Across eight sessions, participants will work as an ensemble using movement, partnering, objects, visual imagery, voice and text to devise new material and shape it into a final performance.
Drawing inspiration from a variety of physical theatre practitioners such as Frantic Assembly, Zen Zen Zo, and Red Leap alongside Viewpoints, Butoh, Lecoq, Le Jeu and object theatre, the programme is practical, collaborative and performance focused.
Each week builds towards the final performance:
1. The World We Know — ensemble, rhythm and Viewpoints
2. Body to Body — partnering and physical relationships
3. The Body Changes — character, gesture and adaptation
4. Transform the World — objects, materials and visual storytelling
5. Impossible Worlds — Butoh, image and composition
6. Body, Voice & Story — text, chorus and Vocal Viewpoints
7. Building the Performance — structure and selection
8. From Rehearsal to Performance — refine, rehearse and perform
Rather than beginning with a script, we will create first and discover the story through the rehearsal process.
The term culminates in a presentation of the newly devised work on Friday 11 December 6.00pm -7pm.
TRAIN → DEVISE → TRANSFORM → COMPOSE → PERFORM
Enrol now and become part of the ensemble creating MOVE’s next original work.
