Running from 3 to 30 November, Homes Not Hospitals is a collection of photographs and stories from people who draw on MacIntyre’s support across Greater Manchester. Some people involved spent years in long-stay hospitals or assessment and treatment units before moving into homes of their own. For others, their home and support helps prevent them from having to experience institutional care.The images reflect each person’s spirit, experiences and perspective, inspired by their history and what matters most to them today. Where people do not communicate through words, photographers worked alongside them and those closest to them to convey their voice through images and other forms of expression.
This exhibition is a reflection on what home, humanity and freedom mean to all of us. It challenges assumptions about disability and support, reminding us that we are all more than our needs, diagnoses or labels.
