What is Alpha? An immersive retreat where everyone is an artist, its for creators, makers, and innovators from all backgrounds. We welcome anyone who is interested in interactive and participatory art to join us. Whether you consider yourself to be an artist every day or are just willing to try on the idea, this festival is for you! Alpha is an offshoot of the Figment Project. While we are not officially a Burning Man regional, we are inspired by the participatory art and volunteer-driven spirit of Black Rock City and adhere to the 10 principles of Burning Man (plus one 11 Principle: Gratitude).
What does 'Participatory Art' mean? It means everyone participates! And that everyone - yes, even you - is an artist. In the past we've had everything from rat taxidermy to rock operas, plenty of fire art, DJs, low-fi projects like compliment booths and workshops on how to roll down a hill like a panda, to technologically complex interactive video art and light sculpture games. What will it be this year? You tell us!
The event takes place over three and a half days on a bucolic 200-acre property with rolling hills, wooded trails, rustic cabins, a dining hall, a pond, a peninsula, a haunted mansion, and more! Camp Ramblewood features newly renovated, insulated cabins, hot showers, and meal plans are available, so the camping part of this camp-out festival is EASY.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions and we look forward to seeing you there!
