Author Peter Crighton shares his heartfelt memoir and discusses how music become the soundtrack to our most intimate momentsAbout this Event
TPL presents author Pete Crighton in conversation at the Toronto Reference Library's Jack Rabinovitch Reading Room.
In his heartfelt memoir The Vinyl Diaries: Sex, Deep Cuts, and My Soundtrack to Queer Joy, Crighton chronicles what happened when, in his 40s, he finally decided to live his queer life to the fullest. But what makes this memoir sing is how each new connection, each lover, is linked to an artist, song, or album from his vast record collection. Kate Bush, the B-52s, Prince, The Smiths, Yoko Ono, and Stevie Nicks provide an extraordinary soundtrack to Crighton's mid-life sexual awakening.
How does music become the soundtrack to our most intimate moments? What role does it play in helping us understand ourselves and connect with others? And what becomes possible when we finally give ourselves permission to live fully—to embrace desire, take risks, and claim the life we were always meant to have?
Join Toronto author Pete Crighton for a poignant, funny, and deeply personal conversation about music, memory, and the journey to queer joy.
Q&A and book signing to follow. Books available for purchase.
