GUZEL JAHINA A PESTEXTEN
Kitelepítettek, száműzöttek, éhezők, a rendszer ellenségeivé nyilvánított emberek.
November 14-én Guzel Jahina a PesText vendége lesz a Három Hollóban.
A Volga gyermekei a volgai németek világába vezet, a Szerelvény Szamarkand felé az 1920-as évek pusztító éhínségének idején játszódik.

GUZEL YAKHINA AT PESTEXT
The displaced, the exiled, the starving, those branded as enemies of the regime. In Guzel Yakhina’s novels, the history of Stalinism is not told through dates and political slogans, but through the lives of people who suddenly found themselves at the mercy of a ruthless system.
On 14 November, Guzel Yakhina will be a guest of PesText at Három Holló.
Born in Kazan, Yakhina repeatedly returns to the decades following the Bolshevik Revolution and the world of the Stalinist dictatorship: an era when people were branded as enemies of the regime, families were torn apart, entire communities were deported, and state repression reached into the most private corners of everyday life.
Her debut novel, Zuleikha Opens Her Eyes, tells the story of collectivisation, dispossession and exile to Siberia through the fate of a Tatar woman. The novel became one of Russia’s major literary successes of 2015, winning the Big Book Award and the Yasnaya Polyana Literary Award, and has since been published in more than thirty countries.
In Guzel Yakhina’s historical novels, the forces of politics and history become tangible in people’s kitchens, families, bodies and everyday decisions. As her Hungarian publisher Helikon notes, this is precisely what distinguishes her work from many other books dealing with the same period: she approaches these lives with a female sensibility and psychological depth, focusing on individual fates that history usually records in numbers and dates.
Children of the Volga takes readers into the world of the Volga Germans, while A Train to Samarkand is set against the devastating famine of the 1920s. In 2026, another novel by Guzel
Guzel Yakhina was published in Hungarian by Helikon: Eisen – buffo-regény.
On 14 November, Miklós M. Nagy will be in conversation with Guzel Yakhina about history and literature, dictatorship and individual freedom, and the human lives that history concealed for so long behind the label “enemies of the regime”.
📅 14 November 2026, Saturday | 16:30–17:30
📍 Három Holló
In conversation with: Miklós M. Nagy
