A one-of-a-kind museum is coming to Lafayette! Join Catholic Charities of Acadiana at Blackham Coliseum on October 27 and 28 for the People of Hope Museum, a free, interactive experience exploring poverty, homelessness, and the power of serving our neighbors.Housed inside a retrofitted tractor-trailer touring the United States for two-and-a-half years, the People of Hope Museum shares sacred stories of service from staff and volunteers at Catholic Charities agencies across the country. Through first-person accounts of meaningful encounters with individuals and families in need, visitors will discover the power of volunteering, the beauty of encountering others in their vulnerability, and the transformation that happens when we put our faith into action.
Inside the museum, visitors can experience powerful video stories, step into another person's shoes through an interactive poverty simulation, explore audio excerpts from renowned authors on poverty and community, discover national and state data on poverty and social services, and even record their own stories of hope and service.
Whether you're a student, a community leader, or simply someone who wants to make a difference, there's something here for you. Come discover how serving our neighbors can change lives, including our own, and how we can all help build a community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
