Newcastle Centre for the Literary Arts and The Poetry Book Society (PBS)
NCLA and the Poetry Book Society are delighted to present this unique chance to hear new work from three radical, internationally celebrated poets: Don Mee Choi, Grace Nichols and Nidhi Zak/Aria Eipe. Grace Nichols will read from 'The Tracks of My Name', and Nidhi Zak/Aria Eipe will read from 'Stay Winter' – both PBS Autumn selections. Don Mee Choi will read from 'Freely Frayed', her new collection forthcoming from 'And Other Stories' in what promises to be an electric evening of the best in world poetry.
Grace Nichols was awarded The Queen’s Gold Medal for Poetry for 2021. Her poetry is studied in UK schools as part of the GCSE National Curriculum. Grace will be reading from The Tracks of My Name
Don Mee Choi is a highly innovative poet and a translator. Her work slips between forms, mixing poetry, lyric essay, memoir, and visual image. Incorporating archives, photographs and fragments of memory, Choi’s poetry explores historical events and the human impact of war. She was born in Seoul, South Korea, into a family forced to leave Korea in 1972 when she was a child, during the Park Chung Hee dictatorship. Her books include the highly acclaimed KOR-US trilogy (Hardly War DMZ Colony and Mirror Nation, the three titles originally published in the USA by Wave Books between 2016 and 2024). DMZ Colony won the 2020 National Book Award for Poetry. Her translations of Kim Hyesoon’s poetry won the 2019 International Griffin Poetry Prize and the 2024 National Book Critics Circle Award for Poetry.
Nidhi Zak/Aria Eipe is poet, pacifist and fabulist. Her debut, Auguries of a Minor God (2021), was shortlisted for the Dylan Thomas Prize and the John Pollard Foundation International Poetry Prize, among others. Nidhi Zak/Aria Eipe will be reading from Stay Winter.

- This event will be held in the Curtis Auditorium, Herschel Building at Newcastle University (NE1 7RU).
- We operate a paperless ticketing system, so you do not need to print your tickets. Just give your name at the door.
- To avoid crowding, audience members are asked to arrive for events no earlier than 15 minutes before the advertised start time.
Venue Details and Accessibility
- The Herschel Building is located a 3-minute walk from Haymarket Metro Station and Bus Station, and is easily accessible by Public Transport.
- The Curtis Auditorium is a tiered lecture theatre and has 8 designated spaces for wheelchair users, with flat-level access. There is also a hearing loop system and an accessible toilet nearby.
