Sew your own crescent crossbody bag! Make a Baggu-esque Dupe for yourself or as a great gift.
About this Event

Make a crossbody crescent bag! In this four hour class you will gain the confidence to sew from a pattern with the goal of walking away with your very own cresent Baggu-dupe. With hands-on instruction and support, participants will follow a provided sewing pattern, learn the ins and outs of bag construction, and level up their sewing skills.

What We Provide:

  • Take-home crescent bag pattern
  • Zippers, sliders, and strap webbing
  • Sewing machines as needed

What You Provide (Participant Shopping List):

  • 0.55 yards main fabric (outside of bag)

Note: Make sure your main fabric has some more structure to it. Examples: canvas, nylon, mid to heavy weight taffeta, or lightweight denim. Fabric must be woven with no stretch. Avoid slippery fabrics like silk.

  • 0.55 yards lining fabric (inside of bag)

Note: Fabric must be woven with no stretch. Avoid slippery fabrics like silk.

  • ~70” store bought double fold bias tape (should be 1/4” when double folded)

Note: The bias tape will be used to finish the seams on the inside of the bag, so it should be a color / pattern you like when paired with your lining fabric. Participants can make bias tape ahead of time out of their lining fabric if they know how to do so, but there will not be time during class to make custom bias tape.

What to Wear / Safety Notes No special attire required. Be mindful of needles and pins and respectful of safety notes during class.

Please note that although we plan on sewing this project start-to-finish, due to time constraints, there is a chance that not everyone will complete their projects. Everyone will leave with the skills and knowledge to finish their project independently. If you do not own your own sewing machine, the Tool Library has machines you can check out and bring home as well as Open Sew hours where you can finish your project.

This workshop is part of our Handmade Holiday Gift series! This series of workshops provides the instruction & materials needed to create handmade and upcycled gifts for friends and family in preparation for the holiday season or any occasion.

Skill Level: Confident Beginner to Intermediate — basic knowledge of how to use a sewing machine required, this class is suggested for folks who have sewn a pattern/ project before and are comfortable using a sewing machine.
