💙 RUNNING FOR PARKINSON’S UK 💙I’m raising money for Parkinson’s UK, and many of you will be aware of the devastating impact this cruel disease has had on my family.
My sister Gill was diagnosed with Parkinson’s less than two years ago, at just 59 years old. Sadly, she is now totally immobile, has lost her speech, is bedbound and is receiving palliative care. 💔
Parkinson’s can affect anyone, at any time. It has many different forms, and symptoms can range from relatively mild hand tremors through to the severe and life-changing symptoms that Gill is experiencing.
Gill should have been enjoying her early retirement with her husband and two daughters. She has always been a keen runner — something she enjoyed both on her own, formerly with Harriers, and more recently with Baswich Run4Fun. 🏃♀️
That’s why I’m asking for your help to support Parkinson’s UK and the incredibly valuable research, care, support and advice they provide to people living with Parkinson’s and their families.
🙏 Please consider joining us for a run and help us raise as many pennies as we can for this important cause. Every contribution will make a difference.
🏃♂️ THE 6K RUN
This is a little different from your usual organised race:
📵 No-tech run – no tracking devices are to be used on the route.
⏱️ Predict your finish time – before setting off, predict how long you think you will take to complete the 6K.
🏆 Can you match your own prediction? The three runners who finish closest to their predicted time will receive an award.
🥇 Everyone’s a winner! All runners will receive a sustainably sourced medal.
⚠️ Please note: The route will not be marked and will be un-marshalled. You are responsible for your own safety, including when navigating traffic and crossing roads. Please take care and be aware of your surroundings.
Crib sheets with the route on will be available on the day and consideration is being given to marking the route out in some way. There will be a tail runner. Don't stress if you go wrong as long as you make it back in your estimated time it will still count.
🍰 Cakes, drinks and collection boxes will be available on the day, so please bring along any spare change you can donate.
📸 Smile for the camera! We’ll have a photographer out on the route, so make sure you keep smiling!
