Help make Stafford more understanding and accessible for people living with dementiaJoin us for an informal Dementia Awareness Session, open to local businesses, shop staff, organisations and members of the community who would like to understand more about the everyday challenges someone on their dementia journey can face.
Many simple things most of us would never think twice about can become confusing or unsettling for someone living with dementia. For example, a dark entrance mat or dark flooring can sometimes look like a deep hole or barrier, making someone frightened or anxious about entering a building.
There are lots of simple things businesses and organisations can do to help, and there is also support already available locally that people may simply not know about.
ASDA STAFFORD: QUIET TIMES AND ASSISTED SHOPPING
Asda Stafford has quieter shopping times Monday to Friday, 2pm to 4pm.
These quieter times may be particularly helpful for people living with dementia, sensory issues or anyone who finds a busy supermarket environment difficult.
Asda Stafford also offers assisted shopping. You can contact the Customer Service Desk at the store and book assistance for someone who needs extra help with their shopping.

BARCLAYS STAFFORD: QUIET HOUR
Barclays Stafford has a Quiet Hour from 9.30am to 10.30am on the days the branch is open.
This provides a quieter environment for customers who may find the normal busy banking environment difficult, including people living with dementia or sensory issues.
DEMENTIA UK AT NATIONWIDE STAFFORD
On 20th and 22nd October, Dementia UK will be offering advice appointments at Nationwide in Stafford.
You do not need to bank with Nationwide to have an appointment on either of these days.
The appointments are available to anyone who may benefit from dementia advice and support, including people living with dementia, their families and carers.
THE HERBERT PROTOCOL
The Herbert Protocol is a scheme designed to help the Police and emergency services if a person living with dementia or someone who may be vulnerable goes missing.
A form can be completed in advance with important information about the person, including a recent photograph, medication, contact details and places they may be familiar with. Having this ready can save valuable time if someone goes missing.
