Richard Mills will be interviewed by scriptwriter Daragh Carville.
In March 2022 The ICC was delighted to present a lecture by Dr Richard Mills, about the four young boys from Liverpool who were all proud of their Irish roots. Now we are delighted to present the paperback launch of Mills’s new fascinating book “The Beatles and Black Music” . Prepare for a compelling and fascinating event with Richard Mills in conversation with the award-winning playwright, screenwriter and Beatles Super-Fan, Daragh Carville.
The Beatles and Black Music examines the influence that Black music and culture has had over the Beatles throughout their collective and solo careers.
Tracing the history of Black musical and cultural influence on popular music from the Transatlantic Slave Trade in 1795 to the nascent Mersey Beat scene in the early 1960s, this book is the first to explore the Beatles from this important cultural lens. The Beatles and Black Music discusses the influence that Black music and culture has had over the Beatles throughout their collective and solo careers. Richard Mills adopts a musicological and historiographic account to demonstrate the extent to which Liverpool’s colonial history influenced the Beatles’ music.
Copies of The Beatles and Black Music by Richard Mills will be available to buy at the ICC on the night of this event and Richard will do a book signing.
