The Horry County Museum presents a panel discussion on diverse approaches to non-native plant species on Wednesday, November 4th at 4:30 PM. Join us for a lively panel discussion on different ways to utilize non-native plants. The panel will feature basket maker Nancy Basket, who takes her name from her Cherokee grandmother long ago, Margaret Basket. As a Basketmaker of more than 40 years, Nancy came south to find elders who could share the culture with her. She’s a SC artist in education since 1990 and received the Jean Laney Harris Folk Heritage Award for basketry in 2005. Fellow panelists will also include Celie Dailey from the SC Native Plants Society, and Katie Biggert from the SC Forestry Commission. By including artistic and scientific perspectives, the discussion aims to generate more possibilities for living together in a landscape crowded with recently introduced species. The discussion will be moderated by Sara Rich of the Coastal Conservation League, Indigenize SC, and CCU Environmental Quality Collaborative.
The program is free to the public and will be held in the Museum’s McCown Auditorium located at 805 Main Street, Conway, SC 29526. For more information, call 843-915-5320 or email [email protected]. To view a full list of scheduled programs, visit the museum website at www.horrycountymuseum.org.
