This October, Magnetic Island Koala Park and Billabong Sanctuary are proud to take part in the annual fundraising campaign run by the Australasian Society of Zoo Keeping (ASZK), supporting conservation efforts for threatened species. This year, we’re raising funds for the Palm Cockatoo Project, helping protect one of Australia’s most distinctive and threatened birds.
Palm Cockatoos are the largest cockatoos in Australia, known for their remarkable ability to craft tools from sticks to drum out musical beats. With fewer than 2,000 individuals believed to remain in the wild, supporting conservation efforts for this species is more important than ever!
Funds raised will support:
• The purchase of 10 or more Wi-Fi canopy cameras to monitor Palm Cockatoos
• Population surveys in Cape York
• Collaboration with Indigenous Rangers
• Restoration of critical breeding habitat
• Firebreaks around tree hollows to help protect nesting sites
Join us for a night of Drag Bingo to raise money for one of Australia’s most incredible birds!
