About this Event
Painting Your Grief
Grief holds emotions, memories, and experiences that can sometimes be difficult to express in words. Through color, shape, texture, and symbolism, painting can offer another way to give those feelings a place and form.
During this two-hour guided workshop led by thanatologist, grief specialist, Ligia Houben, participants will be invited to create on a small canvas a personal painting inspired by their experience of loss. Gentle reflection, meaningful prompts, and step-by-step artistic guidance will help each person explore what their grief looks and feels like and what they want their painting to express. The painting instructor, a painter herself will guide you on how to express your emotions through art.
This workshop is open to anyone grieving the death of a loved one or another significant loss, including the end of a relationship, the loss of health, a home, a business, a role, or the life they expected to have.
No painting experience is necessary. This is not about artistic ability or creating a perfect picture. Each painting will be as unique as the person and the loss it represents.
Participants will paint at their own pace in a compassionate and respectful environment. Sharing is always optional. At the end of the workshop, each person will take home a meaningful piece of art that reflects part of their experience and honors what holds significance in their life.
