September–December 2026
North Harrow Community Library
A creative project for young people working towards our Young People’s Art Gallery & Showcase on Saturday 5 December.
Over the coming weeks, participants will have the opportunity to create their own artwork, learn new artistic skills and develop pieces to display at the December showcase.
Getting Started — Materials Shopping & Budgeting
Saturday 12 September
1:00pm — Meet outside The Works, St Ann’s Shopping Centre, Harrow
Our first session will focus on budgeting for art materials.
At The Works we will look at different canvas packs and materials, comparing prices, pack sizes and price per canvas.
Participants will learn how to make their money go further — for example, by considering whether buying a larger pack and sharing it with a friend could provide better value.
Budgets can come from money earned through previous showcases or from a budget provided by a parent/guardian.
Suggested budget: £2–£5.
At approximately 1:30pm, we will leave The Works and travel together to North Harrow Community Library.
Important
This shopping trip is a one-off budgeting and materials session.
Participants do not need to attend The Works with us every week. The aim is to show young people and their families how to budget for materials so they can repeat the process themselves when they need to.
If you do not attend the shopping session, you are still welcome to join the painting activities, but you will need to bring your own canvas or suitable paper and any other materials you require.
The library has a limited supply of art materials, so these cannot be guaranteed.
Saturday Painting Sessions
North Harrow Community Library
Following the initial budgeting session, we'll have regular creative painting sessions where young people can develop their artwork for the December gallery.
Each session may explore a different creative activity or technique, such as:
- Drawing and painting
- Colour mixing
- Light, shadow and depth
- Composition and design
- Exploring different styles and subjects
Activities will be adapted to the young people taking part.
Materials
Paint will be supplied by North Harrow Community Library where available.
Participants should bring their own canvas, suitable paper or other materials for their project where possible.
Painting materials and equipment at the library are limited, so please bring what you can.
Please bring an apron or wear clothes that you don't mind getting paint on.
Taking Part
There is no requirement to attend every Saturday.
Young people who attend regularly will have more opportunities to develop their work and prepare pieces for the December showcase, while those who can only attend occasionally are still welcome to participate when they can.
5 December — Young People’s Art Gallery & Showcase
The project will culminate in a young people's gallery and showcase at North Harrow Community Library.
Participants will have the opportunity to display 4–6 pieces of artwork.
Certificates will be provided to participating young artists.
Selling artwork will be optional.
The showcase is an opportunity to recognise the creativity, effort and skills developed by the young people throughout the project.
Free to attend.
Please book a free Eventbrite ticket so we know who is attending the initial shopping session and who to expect at the meeting point.
