About this Event
Soft Pastel Painting: Cézanne-Inspired Landscapes
In this class, you’ll explore the expressive and tactile world of soft pastels, creating a landscape inspired by the bold colour, structure, and brushwork of Paul Cézanne.
You’ll begin by learning the fundamentals of working with pastels - from layering and blending colours to building form, depth, and texture. We’ll look closely at how Cézanne approached landscapes through simplified shapes and shifting colour planes, using these techniques to construct your own dynamic and balanced composition.
Soft pastels are wonderfully forgiving and full of possibility perfect for both beginners and experienced artists. The process is intuitive, relaxing, and highly satisfying, as you build layers of colour and watch your landscape gradually emerge on paper.
By the end of the class, you’ll take home a finished pastel artwork full of structure, colour, and atmosphere — a contemporary take on landscape through Cézanne’s distinctive lens.
All materials will be provided. Please bring your own apron or wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little dusty!
You’re welcome to BYOB and enjoy your hot or cold drink while you create.
