Padhant: The Recitation is a continuing literary series by Soch.Live dedicated to the performative experience of literature through voice, emotion and presence. Extending beyond poetry alone, the series embraces essays, articles, prose, dramatic texts and other forms of literary writing, not merely to read them for entertainment, but to feel, interpret and inhabit every word.
At its core, Padhant explores how meaning shifts through diction, pauses, syllables, commas, rhythm and vocal modulation; how a single verse can transform entirely through delivery. The expectation from performers is not theatrical excess, but emotional depth, precision and sincerity in recitation. Because in the realm of poetry and literature, to read is not enough.
For the audience, this is an exercise in listening. The format is intentionally minimal, relying only on literature, light and vocal delivery. There is little movement and no spectacle beyond the dramatic possibilities inherent within the spoken word itself. Every pause, breath and inflection becomes part of the performance, drawing the audience into complete attention toward the speaker and the text.
The initiative draws inspiration from Zia Mohyeddin, whose legendary Padhant and lifelong contribution to diction, presentation and Urdu literature continue to shape generations of literary performance.
The primary languages of the event are Urdu and Punjabi, with occasional context and commentary in English to help bridge meaning and accessibility for wider audiences.
