As part of Greek Week and OXI Day 2026 commemorations, Canberra will welcome the Hellenic Presidential Guard (Evzones) to the nation’s capital for the first time in a historic visit on Wednesday, 28 October.Throughout the day, the Evzones will take part in commemorative and cultural events at St Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Australian Parliament House, and the Australian War Memorial, before marching into the Hellenic Club of Canberra for a special Guard of Honour.
The evening celebrations will begin at 6:30pm sharp, when the Evzones will march from Matilda Street into the Hellenic Club of Canberra, culminating in a special Guard of Honour at the Club entrance. Members of the community are encouraged to attend and bring their Greek flags – we recommend being in position by 6:15pm to ensure you don’t miss any of the show!
The celebrations will culminate with an celebratory OXI Day Dinner at Kivotos (see booking details below), bringing Canberra’s Greek community together to commemorate this significant day in Greek history and celebrate the enduring connection between Greece and Australia.
Bring your Greek flags – we hope to see you there!
