Galerie Alain Hens is pleased to present *Simone Lacour: A Belgian Pioneer in Paris*, opening on Thursday, 29 October from 6 to 9 pm.Marking the centenary of Simone Lacour’s birth, the exhibition brings together a focused selection of works on paper, paintings, and reliefs from the 1950s to the 1970s.
Lacour (1926–2016) left Belgium for Paris in the 1950s, where she became closely connected to the international post-war avant-garde. Her work evolved from sign, colour, and gesture towards increasingly physical and spatial forms, from painting as surface to painting as body and volume.
Despite exhibiting internationally and receiving early recognition from figures such as Michel Seuphor and Paul Facchetti, Lacour has largely disappeared from the dominant art-historical narrative. This exhibition is the first substantial step towards a renewed consideration of her work.
