Opening, Wednesday, 14 October at 6–8 p.m.Magdalena Åberg: 𝘍𝘰𝘭𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯 𝘛𝘸𝘰 𝘋𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴
Dorothee Sauter: 𝘞𝘢𝘭𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘜𝘯𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘯 (in the studio)
Magdalena Åberg's (Finland, 1972) solo exhibition addresses painting as a spatial practice and mnemonic device. Åberg shows new paintings based on her ongoing research of topography and cartography (the field for which she originally trained) and on experiments with unorthodox surfaces for the painting process such as transparent canvas or recycled wooden floors. Some of her newest large-scale painted images will double as folding screens or stage decorations.
Dorothee Sauter (Switzerland, 1956) presents a series of recent ceramic sculptures. Her expressive and ambiguously zoomorphic work keeps one foot, as it were, in the field of applied arts, with which ceramics are usually associated, while the other is planted in the soil of speculative fiction, inter-species theory or alternative healing practices. Collaboration with PF25 cultural projects in Basel. Curator: Angelika Li, curator at Kohta: Anders Kreuger
