About this Event
Small Object Spaces
Centred around intimacy, tactility and the quiet presence of everyday objects, artisan's Small Object Spaces exhibition series bridges Queensland based makers with the broader contemporary audience. Working with artists based in textiles, ceramics, metal work and object based practice, this small scale exhibit invites viewers to slow down and hold space for crafted detail, process and scale.
Familiar
Familiar, Cochrane's latest collection of ornante soft scultpures, explores the intersecting, simbiotic relationship of humans and animals. This exhibition is centred in the strange and beautiful, creating mystical, other-worldly sculptures out of a range of materials incuding fabric, ceramic, wool, wire, thread and wood, maneuvering them in myriad ways to mimick natural features of fur, flesh, feathers and antlers to create textured surfaces which evoke a sense of curiousity. Fostering juxtapositions between her materials and bluring the lines between the earthly and the mystical, Cochrane disolves the distinctions between human and animal, dream and waking, life and afterlife. Influenced by the concept that animals can reflect hidden aspects of ones self, these creatures become vessels for self expression, representing the primal, instictive and shadowed aspects of human nature.
