Open Myth Day Out: The Odyssey
What happens when we stop reading myth from the outside and step inside it instead?
Together, we’ll spend a day with The Odyssey, moving through some of its strangest and most enduring moments: Penelope at her loom, Odysseus leaving Calypso’s island, the Sirens and the mast, the olive tree rooted beneath the marriage bed.
Through storytelling, writing, conversation, and imagination, we’ll follow these ancient stories wherever they lead, exploring what it means to listen for ourselves amid all the noise, and what happens when we begin to trust what we hear.
You can be brand new to The Odyssey, or know it by heart. You can be a serious writer, or someone who hasn’t written anything since high school. Everybody gets to come play. We’ll read together, write together, talk, eat lunch, wander a little, and see what the stories have to say when we give them our attention.
This is a small, intimate day in Topanga for 15–20 people, with plenty of room to write, think, share, listen, and disappear into the myth for a while.
Lunch is included. Curiosity is highly encouraged. Prior knowledge of ancient Greek literature very much is not. 🎠
