Nifemi Ogunro presents a workshop that explores the hidden dynamics and emotional registers of the object to body relationship.
About this Event

2026 Artist-in-Residence Nifemi Ogunro, in collaboration with Sacha Vega, presents a workshop that explores the hidden dynamics and emotional registers of the object to body relationship. Through movement-based prompts, personifications, and guided play, participants will investigate the secret energies, moods, and affects of various objects, engaging in improvisatory exercises with both found domestic items and interactive sculptures made by Ogunro.

All levels of movement experience are welcome.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Nifemi Ogunro is a designer, sculptor and visual artist. In Ogunro's design practices, they use the body as a reference point to create objects. In their sculptural practice, they use bodies as an extension of objects. While wood is the material they build in, Ogunro draws inspiration from their life, their surroundings, and the mundane.

Sacha Vega is an artist who collages movement, poetics, and humor to examine the ideologies that train bodies to move.

She has presented work at New York Live Arts, Movement Research at Judson Memorial Church, Westbeth Gallery, Leslie-Lohman Museum, FringeArts, PhilaMoCA, Baxter St x CCNY, and Pelham Art Center. In 2025, she directed two evening-length works at 3AM Theatre: 1-Way Mirror, choreographed by [REDACTED], and PINCH, a trio dance-theatre work exploring safety, control, and possibility.

Vega is a 2025–2026 New York Live Arts Fresh Tracks artist and a 2026 Da Vinci Arts Alliance Collective Futures Fellow. She has participated in residencies and programs including Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, New Dance Alliance’s Satellite Program, LEIMAY Incubator, Wassaic Project. She holds a BFA from Pratt Institute and an MFA from Mason Gross School of the Arts, where she teaches media and performance courses.

OPEN LAB is a series that encompasses theoretical and practical discussions, movement research, and workshops open to the public that invite practice-based inquiry and creative exchange of ideas.
