Micro Cinema Theatre có thể được mô tả như một dạng VISUAL FOLEY (dịch tạm: hiệu ứng thị giác thủ công), gắn liền với việc sử dụng máy quay trong sân khấu rối, các buổi hòa nhạc, biểu diễn live, và sân khấu đương đại. Hình ảnh video được sử dụng để tạo không gian, hoặc khéo léo tích hợp để kể một câu chuyện song song.
Trong workshop thực hành này, công nghệ sẽ được giữ ở mức đơn giản và tập trung vào việc khám phá những gì tìm thấy thông qua sử dụng camera ghi hình trực tiếp và máy chiếu.
Người tham dự sẽ được chia thành nhóm nhỏ, để cùng:
• Thử nghiệm với màu sắc, tiêu điểm và ánh sáng.
• Quan sát chuyển động và các hình ảnh ẩn dụ.
• Xây dựng không gian hai và ba chiều, thông qua cắt dán và mô hình thu nhỏ.
• Tìm ra các cách tích hợp hình ảnh vào trình diễn trên sân khấu.
• Quyết định chuyển động và chất liệu nào phù hợp nhất với câu chuyện muốn kể.
• Thêm âm thanh, foley và "phô trương".

VỀ DỰ ÁN
🎬 SKĐA: XKQMAN – Sân khấu Điện ảnh: Xuyên không qua màn ảnh nhỏ là dự án do Sân khấu Rối TồLô khởi xướng, tập trung khám phá các sáng tạo kết hợp giữa rối / sân khấu vật thể, kỹ thuật ghi hình và biểu diễn trực tiếp. Dự án mở ra các khả năng khám phá mối quan hệ giữa sân khấu và hình ảnh động, nơi ranh giới giữa không gian biểu diễn trực tiếp và màn hình trở nên linh hoạt.
SKĐA:XKQMAN được triển khai qua 3 chặng:
Chặng I: Hội thảo trực tuyến (28/02–01/03)
Chặng II: Workshop chuyên sâu với Gavin Glover (01–05/06)
Chặng III: MiniFestival (24–30/08)

Sau chặng II, các nghệ sĩ tham gia workshop sẽ được mời nộp đề xuất phát triển ý tưởng và trình hiện tác phẩm (work-in-progress) tại chặng cuối - MiniFestival vào cuối tháng 8.
Bên cạnh nhóm nghệ sĩ sân khấu, workshop cũng chào đón những người thực hành lưu trữ/nghiên cứu tham gia với vai trò quan sát và ghi nhận quá trình làm việc. Sự tham gia này nhằm mở rộng đối thoại giữa thực hành biểu diễn và thực hành lưu trữ, góp phần xây dựng nguồn tư liệu và thúc đẩy kết nối trong cộng đồng thực hành liên ngành.

VỀ SÂN KHẤU RỐI TỒLÔ
Sân Khấu Rối TồLô là một sân khấu độc lập tại Hà Nội, được thành lập năm 2023 bởi Linh Valerie Phạm và Trần Kim Ngọc. Thực hành nghệ thuật của TồLô tập trung khám phá những khả năng kỳ diệu, bất ngờ và đôi khi mang tính dị biệt của nghệ thuật rối và sân khấu vật thể.
Các tác phẩm của TồLô đã được trình hiện tại Treasure Hill Artist Village, Puppetry Art Center of Taipei, Lize Puppet Arts Colony (Đài Loan); Pesta Boneka – Liên hoan Rối Quốc tế (Indonesia); Goethe-Institut Hà Nội, Cung Thiếu nhi Hà Nội và United Nations International School (Việt Nam), Asian Youth Theatre Festival 2025 (Lào) và Bangkok International Performing Arts Meeting (BIPAM).
VỀ NGHỆ SĨ ĐIỀU PHỐI WORKSHOP
Gavin Glover là nghệ sĩ sân khấu và đạo diễn người Anh với hơn 30 năm kinh nghiệm. Ông là đồng sáng lập Faulty Optic (1988-2011) và Potato Room Productions, những đơn vị tiên phong trong thực hành kết hợp múa rối và video. Các tác phẩm của Gavin thường mở ra những khung cảnh tối và siêu thực, nơi nghệ thuật rối hòa quyện cùng ngôn ngữ điện ảnh để kể những câu chuyện đầy ám ảnh và giàu cảm xúc.
Thực hành của Gavin tập trung vào việc mở rộng khả năng của nghệ thuật rối đương đại và kỹ thuật micro-cinema trong sân khấu. Ông phát triển những cách tiếp cận táo bạo, nơi hình ảnh, vật thể và chuyển động được xử lý như những thước phim sống.
Bên cạnh sáng tác, Gavin còn là cố vấn và nhà thiết kế cho nhiều nhà hát lớn như National Theatre of Scotland, Citizens Theatre Glasgow và Abbey Theatre Dublin.

[OPEN CALL] 1 WEEK INTENSIVE WORKSHOP with GAVIN GLOVER
Micro Cinema Theatre could be described as a sort of VISUAL FOLEY, using cameras to blend the technologies of video with the manual skills of object manipulation It's often used in contemporary puppetry but more recently it’s been seen in concerts, gigs, contemporary dance theatre, it’s even been used by large established companies looking to explore more visual ideas for their shows. The techniques allow creators to devise effects and narratives through a combination of object theatre, live feed video and storytelling. The projected video images can be used simply as an atmospheric background or cleverly integrated into the visual narrative.
If we point little cameras at tiny objects we begin to see extraordinary details and hidden movements that are totally lost to the naked eye.
In this very practical workshop we will keep the technology simple and get straight into the Art by exploring what we find with a live camera and a projector.
By following some simple cinematic principles we will create a fascinating new type of miniature cinema.
Then by combining these discoveries with our more traditional forms of performance, we will find ourselves in the fascinating and beautiful world of Micro Cinema Theatre.
Working in small groups we will -
• Play with colour, focus and light.
• Look at action, process and metaphor.
• Build 2 and 3 dimensional spaces and work with collage and diorama.
• Establish the many different ways to integrate the images that we have found with the performance on stage.
• Decide what movements and materials work best for the stories we want to tell.
• And finally add sound and foley and present our work to each other.

ABOUT THROUGH THE FRAME:PUPPETRY IN MOTION
Through the Frame: Puppetry in Motion is a project initiated by ToLo Puppet Theatre, focusing on creatives that combine puppetry / object theatre, camera work, and live performance. The project explores relationships between theatre and moving images, where the boundaries between live performance and the screen become fluid.
SKĐA:XKQMAN unfolds in three phases:
Phase I: Online Seminar (28/02–01/03)
Phase II: Micro Cinema Theatre Workshop (01–05/06)
Phase III: Mini Festival (24–30/08)

After Phase II,the participating artists will then be invited to submit proposals to further develop their ideas for presentation at the MiniFestival in late August.
Besides the group of stage artists, the workshop welcomes archivists and researchers to participate as observers, documenting the working process. This participation aims to broaden the dialogue between performance practice and archival practice, contributing to the development of resources and fostering connections within the interdisciplinary community of practitioners.

ABOUT GAVIN GLOVER
Gavin Glover is a British theatre artist and director with over 30 years of international practice. He is co-founder of Faulty Optic (1988–2011) and Potato Room Productions, pioneering companies in the integration of puppetry and video. Gavin’s works often unfold in dark, surreal landscapes for adult audiences, where puppetry merges with cinematic language to tell haunting and emotionally rich stories.
Gavin’s practice focuses on expanding the possibilities of contemporary puppetry and micro-cinema techniques in theatre. He develops bold approaches in which image, object, and movement are treated like living film frames.
Alongside his creative work, Gavin has served as coach and designer for major theatres including the National Theatre of Scotland, Citizens Theatre Glasgow, and Abbey Theatre Dublin.

ABOUT TOLO PUPPET THEATRE
ToLo Puppet Theatre is an independent theatre company based in Hanoi, Vietnam. Founded in 2023 by Linh Valerie Pham and Tran Kim Ngoc, TồLô's artistic practice focuses on magical, unexpected and/or grotesque possibilities that puppetry arts and object theatre can offer.
