About the show:
A 19-year-old boy has just stood trial for the fatal stabbing of his father. "He doesn't stand a chance," mutters the guard as the 12 jurors are taken into the bleak jury room. It looks like an open-and-shut case—until one of the jurors begins opening the others' eyes to the facts. "This is a remarkable thing about democracy," says the foreign-born juror, "that we are notified by mail to come down to this place—and decide on the guilt or innocence of a man, of a man we have not known before. We have nothing to gain or lose by our verdict. We should not make it a personal thing."
But personal it does become, with each juror revealing his or her own character as the various testimonies are re-examined, the murder is re-enacted and a new murder threat is born before their own eyes! Tempers get short, arguments grow heated, and the jurors become twelve angry people. The jurors' final verdict and how they reach it—in tense scenes that will electrify your audience and keep them on the edge of their seats—add up to a fine, mature piece of dramatic literature.
Note: 12 Angry Jurors contains Profanity, Vulgarity, Strong Language, Violence.
Actors must be 18+ years of age to audition and be cast in the show.
Cast of characters:
• Juror #3: Male-presenting. Strong, forceful, loud and opinionated to the extreme. Intolerant of any opinion other than his own. Deeply wounded who masks pain through strong/loud voice.
• Juror #8: Male-presenting. A quiet, thoughtful, gentleman. Sees all sides to every question and seeks the Truth. Inner strength tempered with compassion. Willing to fight for justice regardless of being outnumbered.
• Juror #10: Female-presenting. An angry, bitter, bigoted woman who places no value on life other than her own. Outer beauty hides inner ugliness.
• Juror #11: Female-presenting. A refugee who came to the US as a young adult. Speaks with an accent and is ashamed, humble, and nearly subservient to the others. Honestly seeks justice because she has suffered through so much injustice.
• Juror #1: Male- or female-presenting. Well dressed, pretty, and impressed with the authority of “Foreperson”, handles the position with quiet formality.
• Juror #9: Male- or female-presenting. Old, gentle, mild, long since defeated by life. Attempts to be the voice of experience and wisdom.
• Juror #2: Male- or female-presenting. Meek, hesitant person who finds it difficult to maintain their own opinion
• Juror #4: Male- or female-presenting. Seems to be a person of wealth & position and a practiced speaker who presents well. Only concerned with the facts of the case, is often the voice of reason and logic when a fight breaks out.
• Juror #5: Male- or female-presenting. Younger, “wrong side of the tracks” vibe, identifies with the defendant more than would like to admit, possibly naïve.
• Juror #6: Male- or female-presenting. Blue-collar energy. Makes decisions slowly, carefully.
• Juror #7: Male- or female-presenting. A loud, flashy, glad-hand salesperson, who has more important things to do than sit in this jury. Quick to show temper and quicker to form opinions.
• Juror #12: Male- or female-presenting. A bright, slick, advertising person who tries to do the right thing but is used to being overwhelmed by louder voices. Humans and easier as percentages, graphs & polls.
