About this Event

About the session
How does the time we measure relate to the time we remember, anticipate, and live through?
For our third On a Tangent session, we’ll discuss Carlo Rovelli’s The Order of Time with Kiana Salehi. From relativity and the relationship between space and time to memory, poetry, and the ways we inhabit the world, Rovelli’s book opens a conversation across science and the humanities.
How do motion and gravity affect the passage of time? Is there a shared “now” across the universe? Moving between physics, philosophy, and literature, Rovelli challenges our familiar understanding of time and invites us to reconsider our experience of space, time, and our place in the world.
Our guest: Kiana Salehi
Kiana Salehi is a PhD candidate at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics and the University of Waterloo, researching general relativity. She is also a member of the Event Horizon Telescope Collaboration, the international scientific effort that captured the first images of black holes. Alongside her research, Kiana’s appreciation for poetry and literature brings an interest in language and imagination to the conversation.
Language and reading
This session will be held entirely in Farsi.
You are welcome to read the book in English or Persian. The Persian edition is translated by Mohammadali Jafari and published by Fatemi.
Whether you’ve finished the book, read a little, or simply want to listen and join the conversation, you are welcome.
Conversation facilitated by Amirhesam Monshi and Parham Zomorodi.
About On a Tangent
On a Tangent is a series of reading and conversation sessions where each book becomes a starting point for shared thinking, questions, and unexpected connections. Each session brings readers together with a guest to explore ideas across architecture, culture, politics, philosophy, and lived experience. The conversation takes shape through the curiosity and contributions of everyone who joins.
