Off-Bach 2026

Duo Stick&Bow
2026 Off-Bach
In this surprising program, the duo Stick&Bow presents Bach not as a chapter of history, but as a living architecture, a blueprint that has shaped centuries of music. Cello and marimba bring Bach's original works into dialogue with the music they influenced: a minuet in E minor crosses paths with the Beatles, a chorale opens onto Radiohead, a fugue finds its echo in Sting. These are not simple borrowings but encounters, moments where musicians separated by centuries recognize one another.
The warm, percussive timbre of the marimba brings unexpected colours to Bach's counterpoint, while the cello reveals its humanity beneath the mathematical precision. Together, these two voices strip historical interpretation of its weight and let the essential come through: an inventiveness and emotional urgency that make Bach as alive today as he was three centuries ago.
This is not a reconstruction, but an artistic act of recognition. Through these unexpected juxtapositions, the dust of centuries does not settle: it dances in the light of the present, and Bach's voice remains, brilliantly, resolutely alive.
