There are four tours, each with a different focus:
October 17th at 1:30pm
Capitol Hill Architecture -- Learn about the changing tastes and practical decisions that informed the builders’ choices. This is one of our oldest walking tours. Starts at 324 East Capitol Street NE.
NE Alleys -- The lifestyles, occupations, and shenanigans of the inhabitants; early industrial uses; and efforts both to eliminate and to preserve alley dwellings. The tour starts at the triangle park bounded by the 600 blocks of Massachusetts & Constitution Avenues NE.
October 18th at 1:30pm
Building Capitol Hill - A One Block Tour of SE Capitol Hill History -- Learn about historical and architectural trends in the neighborhood through a one-block-long deep-dive into the history of the buildings and former residents. Meet at 922 C Street SE (corner of 10th and C Streets SE)
Fifth Street --This tour has a mix of everything - architecture, civil war history, notable people, and the general development of Capitol Hill. Th tour starts in Stanton Park - meet by the statue of Nathanael Greene - and ends in Seward Square.
These tours are presented by volunteers from the Capitol Hill Restoration Society as a way to highlight our wonderful neighborhood. We want people to appreciate the rich history and the beautiful architecture so that we will continue to protect and preserve the area in and around the Historic District.
