M. R. Gardens in the Oakley neighborhood of Asheville is showcasing our full inventory of plants, which are available to purchase at the show. We offer native perennial flowers as well as plants that complement them like groundcovers and herbs. Native plants attract important wildlife such as birds, butterflies and other pollinators, and also add beauty to the landscape.Our next plant show at the nursery is Thursday October 29 through Saturday October 31. We’ll be open from 11 AM to 2PM each day for onsite sales and the opportunity to meet the new owners and manager of the nursery! This is a great time to browse our selection of native perennials for autumn planting.
New gardeners are often surprised to learn that fall is an excellent season for installing perennials. The plants’ energy can go toward growing their roots rather than to their flowers, which is best for their longevity in your landscape. Even though the temperature of the air is dropping, the soil is still warm. The plants are less stressed than they are in the spring, when air temperatures can be extreme and the soil is still warming. As another bonus of autumn planting, while your new plants settle into the landscape, you may not have to water them quite as much, especially here in the mountains, where we have fog and dew early in the mornings.
