About this Event

TOPIC: Equivalent Clean Air and the Importance of Validating and Controlling Clean Ventilation Air

PRESENTER: Darryl DeAngelis

BIO: Darryl DeAngelis has served as Director of Business Development for EBTRON since 2018. He brings over 40 years of experience in the HVAC industry and holds a B.S. in Marine Engineering from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. Darryl is a LEED AP and has been an active member of ASHRAE for over 20 years, contributing to the development of standards and guidelines related to indoor air quality, energy and sustainability, controls, and building operation and maintenance. He currently serves as Co-Vice Chair of ASHRAE 62.1 Ventilation and Acceptable Indoor Air Quality and is a past Chair of TC 7.7 Testing and Balancing.

DESCRIPTION: ASHRAE Standard 241-2023 developed a novel term, Equivalent Clean Airflow. Since the effective ventilation rates to dilute infectious aerosol in spaces are up to 10X greater than code minimum ventilation rates, this equivalence allowed for mechanical filtration and other lab verified methods to remove the infectious aerosols as if they were diluted. This concept, however, is not new. Clean ventilation airflow has been the cornerstone of creating healthy spaces.

In this presentation, we will review indoor airborne contaminants, the current state of ASHRAE Standard 62.1, and the role of ventilation and filtration. It will also address ASHRAE Standard 241 Infectious Aerosols and Guideline 44 Wildfire Smoke. Darryl will dive into the importance of validation and control of ventilation to ensure clean airflow is delivered to the occupied space for healthier and energy efficient buildings. Whether you’re an engineer, controls contractor, facility manager, or building owner, this session provides valuable insights into the importance of ventilation and filtration in the indoor environment.

Event is free for members and $35 for non-members. Registration is required.
