Cleveland Rocks: PPF’s Professional Development Workshops cover topics including music technology, business, networking, and professional development.Budgeting for the Working Musician
Led By: David Kennedy
Join us as we talk through an annual budget for a solo musician and a band.
• How much money do you need to make to live?
• How many shows and streams and t-shirts do you have to sell to cover your needs?
• What expenses do you expect? What about the unexpected?
Let’s be practical while discussing the various revenue streams available to a musician and strategize how to take advantage of them to meet our annual budgets. A budget building fill in form will be available to attendees to plug in their own numbers and start working on their own annual budgets.
2×4 Songwriter Showcase to follow.
2×4 Artists include: James Nemecek, Britney Redpath, Marie McCausland, Mike Mesteller
This event is made possible with support from Cuyahoga Arts and Culture and The Ohio Arts Council.
About the 2×4 Artists:
My name is James Nemecek and I’m a 46 year old singer/songwriter from Painesville Ohio. I host an open mic night every Thursday at The Lyric Bistro in Fairport Harbor and have made so many incredible connections with some of the most amazing musicians. I also host various events at the 27 Club in Cleveland including coffee tastings, wine tastings, murder mysteries, matcha tastings, etc. I play alongside Ashley Boyce and Adam Joyner in an acoustic trio by the name of Harbor Static and recently joined the band Haywire as their new bassist.

Britney Redpath is a singer-songwriter from Canton, Ohio. Once a keytarist in a synth-pop band, she now writes indie folk music that often juxtaposes the upbeat sounds of the ukulele with raw and personal lyrics. She is currently working on recording her debut EP which will consist of a few of her “sad girl ukulele songs.”

Marie McCausland is a Cleveland-based singer-songwriter, storyteller, and playwright whose work blends humor, vulnerability, grief, motherhood, relationships, science, and the strange experience of being human. A scientist-turned-doula-turned-performing artist, Marie brings years of public speaking and storytelling experience to the stage. Her live performances pair original songs with conversational storytelling, moving easily between deeply personal material and irreverent humor. Her theatrical work includes Perigon, selected for Cleveland Public Theatre’s Test Flight series.
Mike Mesteller is an americana and blues singer-songwriter based in Northeast Ohio. With powerful instrumentation, vocals, and lyrics he captures the attention of listeners from all walks of life. Pulling inspiration from his many lived experiences and from the lived experiences of those he’s met or been around, his songs have unique personal connections to listeners, engaging them to feel as if they are part of the story.
