About this Event
Objects in Colour is a relaxed contemporary painting workshop led by artist Samiya Younis.
Working from a simple still-life arrangement, you’ll explore colour, observation and composition to create your own painting.
Working with a limited palette of primary colours and white, you’ll learn how to mix colour, simplify objects into shapes and create a loose contemporary interpretation of the still life.
Inspired by observation, memory and material culture, the workshop encourages you to interpret what you see rather than trying to create a perfect or photographic copy.
Whether you’re completely new to painting or simply want some time to make, experiment and slow down, you’ll be guided through the process in a relaxed and supportive environment.
What you’ll do:
- Paint from a curated still-life arrangement
- Learn how to mix colours from a limited palette
- Explore shape, composition and expressive brushwork
- Simplify objects rather than focusing on perfect realism
- Develop your own individual response
- Take your finished painting home
No previous painting experience is needed.
All materials are provided.

Info: I’ll introduce the still-life setup and explain how we’ll simplify what we see through shape, colour and observation.

Artist demonstration
Info: I’ll demonstrate how to simplify the objects, mix colours from a limited primary palette and begin a loose contemporary still-life painting.

Painting: shape & colour
Info: You’ll begin your own painting, working with broad shapes, colour and expressive brushwork. I’ll offer individual guidance throughout.

Refine & finish
Info: You’ll build contrast, shadows and selected details while developing your own interpretation of the still life.
🕑: 08:15 PM - 08:30 PM
Final touches & informal sharing
Info: We’ll bring the paintings together, make any final adjustments and have an optional moment to look at and photograph the finished work.
