OBJ At CrowbarThis is a special event celebrating the legacies of OBJ and the Crowbar. The inaugural Orange Blossom Jamboree (OBJ) music and art festival was held in May of 2010 at the Sertoma Youth Ranch in Brooksville, Florida. Founded by Russ and Toby Bowers, it was established as a showcase for Florida-based jam bands and improvisational music. This concert is brought to you by artists who are a part of the OBJ extended family and the Crowbar which has long been a cultural lighthouse hosting artists on the rise, some of which have won GRAMMYs and achieved international superstardom such as Doechii, Chappell Roan, Portugal. The Man, Future Islands, and many more. Although bygone are the days when the OBJ festival was in its ascension, its legacy continues to evolve and many individuals within it have gone on to achieve incredible success. For example, Andy Lytle, who is Billy String’s front of house sound engineer, was instrumental as both a musician and on the sound tech side of things in developing the festival. Roosevelt Collier is another artist who performed at OBJ who has since gone on to collaborate with modern jazz fusion luminaries Snarky Puppy and is currently the music director for Jelly Roll. Many of the artists who performed at the first few years of the festival are still performing today. Bands break-up, people move, families bloom, the sacred circle of life happens but the spirit of the music endures in perpetuity. This event is a convocation for musicians, artists, former OBJ festival goers, supporters of independent venues and artists, and all supporters of live original music from right here in Florida. There are three featured sets and a finale jam hosted by members of the band Cope, one of the biggest original bands in the Florida jam scene. The jams will go late into the night and many more special guest bands and artist sit-ins are TBA. What is important is that you are there to support this event. The jams will go late into the night. There is space to dance and to headbang. There is a welcoming aura to this event and your support enriches the great memories we have of both of these amazing institutions of music to Florida. We are saddened and bracing for the inevitable loss we will all feel when the Crowbar too becomes a memory. But, the more love we carry within us, the more we honor the memory and modern iterations of these Florida musical ecosystems, and the more we band together - the stronger the future of our scene can be!
