About this Event
Obituary is a fast, creative party game built around one simple idea:
WHO died — and HOW did they die?
Draw a WHO card. Draw a HOW card. Then get your team to guess the combination by either acting it out charades-style or drawing it Pictionary-style.
Think:
A bagpiper + bludgeoned with a turkey leg.
A mime + emu stampede.
A rodeo clown + steam roller.
You get the idea.
No experience—or artistic ability—is required. The game takes about two minutes to learn, and we'll have experienced players around the room helping get everyone started.
YOUR GAME NIGHT DEAL
Two types of Tickets:
General Admission: $25 (plus tax) gets you the Obituary game and a pint of Pinthouse beer! If you have a group of 4 or more ticket holders there's a flagship pitcher of Pinthouse beer!
Observer Tier: : $10 (plus tax) with a Pinthouse beer as you join all the fun!
Bring a group of 4–6 people and make a team, or come on your own and we'll help get you into a game.
WHAT'S HAPPENING
Throughout the evening we'll play both versions of Obituary:
WHO — Act It Out
Use your finest—or worst—charades skills to get your team to guess who's on the card.
HOW — Draw It Out
Attempt to illustrate the unfortunate demise before time runs out. Bad artists may actually have an advantage.
We'll also have:
- Obituary and Pinthouse merchandise and prizes
- Featured game rounds and competitions
- Giveaways
- Opportunities to share your best performances and drawings
- A short founder story from Obituary creator Steve Oliver
- A chance to give us feedback and help shape what's next for the game
THE STORY BEHIND OBITUARY
Obituary started with an unlikely inspiration.
Years ago, Steve spent lunch breaks running through the Texas State Cemetery near his Austin office. Reading hundreds of tombstones got him thinking about how an entire life eventually gets reduced to a few words—and how, occasionally, even death can be funny.
That eventually became a notebook filled with strange characters and absurd ways to die.
Then came the idea:
Guess the person. Guess how.
Years later, over a beer at Pinthouse, the idea came back up in conversation and began its transformation from a strange notebook concept into an actual party game.
So bringing Obituary back to Pinthouse for Game Night feels appropriately full circle.
WHY WE'RE DOING IT
Mostly because it's fun.
But we're also building momentum for Obituary here in Austin heading into Halloween, and we want real people playing the game, laughing at it, criticizing it, sharing it and telling us what works.
So come play.
Bring some friends. Meet some new ones. Have a beer. Win something.
And possibly witness the tragic demise of a New York subway rat at the hands of an exploding taco.
Space is limited to approximately 80 guests. RSVP in advance to reserve your spot.
