Build confidence in OASIS recognition and repair through expert instruction and hands-on practice using porcine tissue.
About this Event

Develop practical confidence in the recognition, assessment, and repair of obstetric anal sphincter injuries (OASIS) through focused, hands-on learning.

This in-person workshop is designed for healthcare professionals involved in intrapartum and postpartum care who want to strengthen their procedural skills in the assessment and repair of severe perineal trauma. Led by experienced faculty, the session will combine concise expert instruction with demonstration, guided practice, and interactive discussion.

Participants will have the opportunity to practise repair techniques using porcine tissue in a small-group learning environment, allowing for direct faculty feedback and practical skill development. The workshop will emphasize systematic assessment, appropriate repair principles, anatomical recognition, and approaches to common procedural challenges.

By the end of the session, participants should feel better prepared to recognize OASIS, approach repair in a structured manner, and apply evidence-informed techniques in clinical practice.

This workshop is intended to provide an interactive and practical learning experience, with significant time dedicated to hands-on skills development.

Learning Goals

  1. Improve participants’ understanding of the recognition, classification, and clinical significance of Obstetrical Anal Sphincter Injuries (OASIS).
  2. Strengthen participants’ knowledge of evidence-based principles and techniques for primary OASIS repair.
  3. Develop participants’ technical confidence and procedural skills in identifying relevant anatomy and performing OASIS repair through supervised hands-on practice using porcine tissue.
  4. Support the translation of workshop learning into clinical practice to promote consistent, safe, and effective management of severe perineal trauma and reduce the risk of long-term maternal morbidity.
