About this Event
New York City schools remain among the most segregated in the United States. For years, community leaders, students, educators, and city-commissioned working groups have put forward detailed recommendations to address inequality—yet systemic changes have not come.
Sparked by Nikole Hannah-Jones' recent New York Times Magazine essay on her family's decade of experience navigating the school system, segregation and inequality are back in the public conversation. This event is a chance to have the conversation together in the same room.
Join The Bell and New York Appleseed for a frank, urgent town hall bringing students, parents, educators, and advocates together with Nikole Hannah-Jones and NYC Schools Chancellor Kamar Samuels. Together, we will discuss what integration actually looks like on the ground, the policy choices that have inhibited progress, and the swift actions required to deliver equity for all NYC students.
