Presenters:
Brett Murray, Site Safe (CE)

Throughout his 20 years in the health and safety field, Brett has been committed to helping make workplaces safe, healthy and rewarding environments to New Zealanders. His oversight of many of New Zealand’s most serious and complex industrial accident investigations has given him a deep appreciation of the challenges faced by high-risk industries. In 2010, Brett headed the investigation into the Pike River mining disaster and later went on to establish and lead WorkSafe New Zealand’s High Hazard Unit. In his role as General Manager of Operations, Brett was the senior operational executive on the governance group that oversaw the development of the 2015 Health and Safety at Work Act. Since 2018 Brett has been the Chief Executive of Site Safe NZ, the country’s largest membership health and safety organisation. Brett brings a deep practical understanding of the challenges of effective health and safety management, both at the system and human performance levels.

Phillip Tana, ACC (Relationship Manager)

Phillip Tana has seven years’ experience as a Relationship Manager at ACC, supporting Northland businesses to understand and access ACC services. He also brings broad experience from previous roles in banking, dairy, and sport. Phillip will share insights from the Injuries in New Zealand Report 2025.

Corey Abraham, Northpower Northland (HSQE Manager)

I am an HSQE Manager with over 10 years of experience in Health, Safety, Quality, and Environment across the oil and gas, energy, and utilities sectors. Before moving into safety leadership, I spent 17 years working on the tools as a Scaffolder and Rigger in high-risk industrial environments, giving me a strong understanding of frontline operations and the realities of work. My career has progressed from Junior H&S Advisor through to senior leadership roles, including positions at Marsden Point Refinery, Northpower, and Top Energy. I am currently the HSQE Manager for Northpower Northland. Outside of work, I have spent the past eight years coaching Northland rugby, from Under 16s through to Senior Premier level. My coaching experience strongly influences how I apply Human and Organisational Performance (HOP) principles in the workplace, focusing on trust, learning, teamwork, accountability, and creating the conditions for people to perform at their best and go home safe every day.

Jonathan Bell, Kaipara District Council (Health and Safety Professional)

I have been working as a Health and Safety Professional for over 27 years in various industries, including electrical generation, metering, manufacturing, food service, logistics and trade sales in organisations such as Carters, Cadbury, Mighty River Power, Compass Group. For the last 18 months I have had the privilege of working with the amazing people at Kaipara District Council.

Colin Druce, WorkSafe (Inspectorate Area 1 Manager)

Colin Druce has been with WorkSafe since 2019, starting as an Inspector before moving into a management role. He brings a strong background in arboriculture and construction to his work as Inspectorate Area 1 Manager.
