Using AI in a law firm raises two questions straight away: how do we protect client confidences, and where do we start? This session answers both.
Andrew Fergus, Director of IT Live, covers the security and confidentiality side first, then builds working AI tools live in front of you. All demonstrations use sample files from a fictional client, so no real client information goes near the screen.

- Live builds: you choose from a menu of practice tasks across documents and contracts, client work, and practice and compliance, and we build them on the spot
Learning outcomes
Watch it built live: you choose from 15 real practice tasks and we build the AI skill on the spot. Around 30 minutes.
By the end of the session you'll be able to:
- Assess an AI tool against your confidentiality, privilege and client care obligations before you use it
- Spot shadow AI (staff using AI tools the firm hasn't approved) and AI-driven attacks like impersonation and payment fraud
- Build a simple AI skill for an everyday practice task, such as a contract clause check or a matter summary
CPD
About 1 CPD hour of structured, interactive learning, including Q&A. Every attendee receives a certificate of attendance with your name, the session title and summary, date, location, provider (IT Live) and hours, for your CPD Plan and Record. You decide whether the session meets your learning needs and how many hours to record.
