Using AI in an accounting practice raises two questions straight away: is our client data safe, and where do we start? This session answers both.
Andrew Fergus, Director of IT Live, covers the security and confidentiality side first, then builds working AI tools live in front of you. All demonstrations use sample files from a fictional client, so no real client data goes near the screen.

- Live builds: you choose from a menu of practice tasks across tax and compliance, bookkeeping checks and client advisory, and we build them on the spot
Learning outcomes
Watch it built live: you choose from 15 real practice tasks and we build the AI skill on the spot. Around 30 minutes.
By the end of the session you'll be able to:
- Explain where client financial data goes when your team uses AI tools, and the settings that keep it confidential
- Spot shadow AI (staff using AI tools the firm hasn't approved) and AI-driven scams like fake supplier invoices and payment requests
- Build a simple AI skill for an everyday practice task, such as a GST return pre-check or a bookkeeping exceptions review
CPD
About 1 CPD hour of structured learning, including Q&A. Every attendee receives a certificate of attendance with your name, the session title and summary, date, location, provider (IT Live) and hours. You decide how the hours count toward your CPD record. The confidentiality content relates to the fundamental principles of the Code of Ethics.
