New Zealand's yellow-eyed penguin is staring down the barrel of extinction.Shot on the Otago Peninsula by Dunedin filmmaker Nate Lachmann, Noise Shouter: The Anatomy of an Extinction takes a deep dive into the extraordinary secret life of the hoiho, the terrible challenges it is facing, and the passionate efforts of locals to save it.
Nate grew up on Rakiura, immersed in nature, and has been making films since he was 11 years old. This film was produced over two years, with a Lumix camera, a creaky 35-year-old lens, a tripod held together with a rubber band and a budget made up of loose change.
