About this Event
During her upcoming visit to the UK, Linda Pentz Gunter will come to Shrewsbury to talk about the theme of her latest book
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The UK government is calling for more nuclear energy, claiming it is "clean, homegrown power that we can control." But the uranium needed to power nuclear reactors is neither "clean" nor "homegrown" and the new reactors are not only untested and expensive but also intended mainly to power AI data centers.
In her new book, Linda Pentz Gunter blasts aside the pro-nuclear myths and shows how choosing nuclear power will prolong the use of fossil fuels while squeezing out renewables and making climate change worse. (Limited signed copies available for purchase on the night, special price £10.00 - normally £14.99)
Far from driving down energy prices, providing jobs, or boosting local economies, nuclear power is far too slow and too expensive to deliver economically, safely or on time.
Written in an easy, accessible style, the book reveals the toll taken by nuclear power on human beings, as well as on wildlife and ecosystems, and highlights how the nuclear power and nuclear weapons industries prey upon Indigenous peoples, communities of colour and those least resourced to fight back.
Linda Pentz Gunter is the founder and executive director of Beyond Nuclear and the editor and curator of Beyond Nuclear International. She is also a feature writer for the UK daily newspaper, the and Ralph Nader's .
Linda's book will be also be for sale on the night at a special price of £10.00 (normally £14.99), following the post talk Q&A.
