The New Nottingham Journal returns. The city's literary journal was founded last year on Kickstarter, with support from Arts Council England and a range of partners across Nottingham, and sold out its first print run.
Issue 2 is another step forwards. It brings together Jo Shapcott, twice winner of the National Poetry Competition; Benjamin Myers, author of The Gallows Pole and Cuddy; Camilla Grudova, one of Granta's Best of Young British Novelists; Dean Atta, BAFTA-winning screenwriter and author of The Black Flamingo; and the exiled Uzbek novelist Hamid Ismailov.
Alongside them NNJ No. 2 will feature the first English appearance of a short story by Sadegh Hedayat, the Iranian modernist behind The Blind Owl, translated by Niloufar-Lily Soltani. It also features new work from outstanding writers here in the city, as well as black and white photography and illustrations.
We’d love you to come and raise a glass to the new issue. There'll be readings from some of the contributors, a friendly mingle, a word from editor Andrew Tucker Leavis and the first chance to get your hands on a copy of the sequel.
Tickets are £4 per person and include a complimentary glass of prosecco.
