NEPA Scene is returning to Strange Birds as part of the NEPA Scene Open Mic On Tour program!Strange Birds is a new queer art and performance venue in Scranton that serves as a welcoming home for LGBTQ+ artists, audiences, and allies.
This free, all-ages event will give up-and-coming and established local musicians, comedians, actors, performance artists, and more a platform to showcase their talents in front of a new crowd, meet other artists, and hang out together while giving each act some extra publicity through the live stream and photos.
Sign-ups are from 6 p.m.-8 p.m., and while a limited amount of sign-ups may be accepted after that, arriving early guarantees a spot. Every act receives between 10 to 15 minutes of stage time, depending on the turnout that night. The show starts at 7 p.m. and runs through midnight. Original material is encouraged.
Everyone participating will be featured in the live stream on Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram, unless they choose not to be featured online. Photos of each act will be made available for download in the NEPA Scene Open Mic Facebook group, giving artists professional shots that they can use for their own promotion.
All ages are welcome, though it is an uncensored show, so expect some strong language and themes from some of the performers as the night goes on. Alcohol is not allowed inside or outside the venue. Snacks and non-alcoholic drinks will be available for purchase.
Strange Birds will provide a soundboard, two microphones, and two standard instrument cables. Full bands are welcome to perform. Those who have pre-recorded music or backing tracks can bring them on their phone or laptop; NEPA Scene has audio cables ready to plug devices directly into the soundboard. If any other equipment is needed, performers must bring it with them.
