The second of a series of National Theatre Live screenings at Theatreship, we are excited to screen the opening night of Golden Boy, featuring Josh O’Connor in Clifford Odets’ classic American drama.
1930s New York, at the height of the Depression. Joe Bonaparte is a gifted young violinist with a future in music, until a chance at fame and fortune lures him into the brutal world of professional boxing. He must confront what he’s willing to sacrifice, who he’s willing to become and how to find his place in a world that demands he choose a side.
Filmed live from the Almeida Theatre and featuring a live string quartet, Olivier Award-winner Sam Yates (Vanya) directs this propulsive drama exploring ambition, identity, and the high price of success.
The running time for this show is approximately 3 hours with an additional 15 minute interval. Please note, there are no trailers for this screening so please arrive in good time ahead of a 6:30pm start time.

The venue is open from 4pm. There is a lovely atmosphere in the bar and top deck, and we are open for everyone to have a drink and to enjoy the space. We recommend arriving by 6:00pm at the latest for this event in order to grab a drink, get your seats, and settle in.
Theatreship is committed to broadening access to the arts - we know that ticket price is a huge barrier for some. Due to the historic nature of the ship, we’re sorry to say there is not currently step-free access into the theatre space.
