Myofascial Decompression & Dynamic Cupping A cup is only as useful as the clinical reasoning behind it.
Learning how to apply suction is easy. Understanding where to place a cup, when to incorporate movement, how much decompression is appropriate, and how to adapt treatment based on tissue and client response is where the real skill begins.
Dynamic Cupping & Myofascial Decompression is an 8-hour, hands-on continuing education course designed for massage therapists who want to incorporate decompression techniques into their work safely, effectively, and with purpose.
We’ll explore cupping as more than simply placing cups and waiting. You’ll learn how to combine static and dynamic applications with movement, tissue assessment, and your existing manual therapy techniques to support mobility, recovery, and functional movement in orthopedic, sports, and therapeutic massage.
Throughout the day, you’ll learn and practice:
• Static and dynamic/gliding cupping techniques
• Upper- and lower-body applications
• Assessing tissue quality and movement before treatment
• Selecting cup placement based on the goal of the session
• Incorporating active and passive movement with decompression
• Modifying suction, duration, movement, and technique based on tissue response
• Indications, contraindications, and precautions
• Appropriate treatment frequency and progression
• Integrating cupping with existing manual therapy techniques
• Applications for common mobility restrictions and repetitive overuse patterns
• Proper draping, positioning, bolstering, and therapist ergonomics
• Client education, aftercare, and post-treatment expectations
We’ll also spend time developing one of the most important skills in decompression work:
Knowing when—and why—to change what you’re doing.
What happens to the tissue when you introduce movement? How is your client responding? Does the area need more decompression—or less? Would a static application make more sense here, or would movement provide better information?
Cupping should give you more treatment options and another way to interact with tissue, not simply another technique to perform.
Expect guided demonstrations, movement and tissue assessment, supervised partner exchanges, and structured hands-on labs throughout the day.
This is a beginner-friendly course. No previous cupping experience is required.
You’ll leave understanding not only how to use cups, but how to make thoughtful decisions about when, where, and why to use myofascial decompression as part of a larger treatment plan.
