“Music as Language, Language as Music” is a multidisciplinary project led by cello and piano duo Martha & Monica – cellist Monica Scott and pianist Hadley McCarroll – and the poet/singer Katherine McDaniel. This project is bringing composition and creative writing students together to explore communication through each other’s discipline, and the connections between creation, performance and the audience. Student works will be featured in a second concert in the spring. The November performance features performances of works by Benjamin Britten, Cathy Berberian, Claude Debussy, Leoš Janáček, György Kurtág, Helmut Lachenmann, Katherine McDaniel and Monica Scott. “Music as Language, Language as Music” is supported through an Innovation Grant from the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts.
