Mothbox Workshop (And MOTHRAVE)

It's a 2-part workshop:
Daytime: We do a 2 hour workshop putting together Mothboxes and going through insect data.
Nighttime (Sun Sets at 9pm): We do fieldwork / afterparty in the nearby Tiergarten. Participants will set up their devices and see what insects they attract.

We aim to have a DJ, White Sheets, and Projector(s) set up where people can do live visualizations of Mothbox data. (Important! If you are local and can help us get speakers and projectors we can use in the park, please contact us!). There may even be a special performance by the Kebebet Boiz.

The Mothbox is an open source insect monitor for studying biodiversity (https://digital-naturalism-laboratories.github.io/Mothbox/ ).
We have been creating new, easy to assemble and manufacture designs for the Mothbox that will let people create tools to inexpensively attract and document insects.
In the one-hour daytime workshop participants can join to build some Mothboxes together along with standalone insect attracting lights ("Mothbeams"). Participants who want to keep their Mothbox or Mothbeam can pay for materials ahead of time (~$370USD Mothbox / ~$20USD Mothbeam), but we should have some materials for those who just want to build and use. We will also spend the last 20 minutes of the workshop looking at the post-processing of insect data, and ways to visualize it.
That night, we will have a "field trip" / performance where we go deploy the Mothboxes and Mothbeams in the nearby park. There will be sheets to hang the lights and hopefully attract nearby creatures.
These lights in the park will also add to the atmosphere of the outdoor MOTHRAVE. We will also set up music and projectors to have a dance party with a VJ showing cool insect data. Participants from the workshop will be invited to play with the insect data and VJ.
If we are lucky, the Moth-themed band, Kebebet Boiz, may do a special performance.
Everyone at OHS will be invited to the nighttime MOTHRAVE portion of this workshop.
