Moonlight Gorge Hike & Thermal Spa Day
Hello Hikers! 🥾
Here we are in winter ❄️. Most of the usual hiking spots have lost their charm, so we have put together an extraordinary itinerary for you that encompasses all the best attractions of the mountains above Szentendre. ⛰️

The Moonlight Gorge 🌕 is one of the most mysterious places in the Pilis–Danube Bend region. It is a series of ravines, cliffs and mining pits and, according to some myths, hosts the graves of some ancient rulers. 👑 It is also one of the first hikes we did when we started BP Hikers!
And the only thing we know for sure is that some of its volcanic stones were carved out by the Romans 🏛️ to be used as building materials, as well as it being an ultra-scenic trekking spot! 🤩
We’ll start our trip by conquering the famous gorge, climb to the lookout tower at the very top of the hill 🗼 and then descend to the Lajos Spring and the Dömörkapu Waterfall, which will probably be frozen by mid-December! 🧊💦
A short break is scheduled in Pilisszentlászló, one of the last traditional Slovak ethnic villages in the heartland of the mountain range 🏘️, and after refreshments we’ll continue our way through the hilly winter forests eastwards down to the river Danube. 🌲➡️🌊
In Leányfalu plenty of restaurants will be available; you can choose any before we jump into the open-air thermal pools of the local bath. 🍽️🛁
📏 The length of the hike: 20 km, 700 meters ascent and 800 meters descent
⏱️ Duration of the hike: approx. 6 hours
💪 Difficulty: Medium – this hike is doable for everyone who has basic fitness and some quality trekking shoes!

🕖 7h50 – Meeting at Batthyány tér HÉV railway station, right between the railway platforms under the surface!

🕣 8h30 – Changing to a bus at Pomáz station

🕓 16h00 – Descending to the village of Leányfalu, visiting the thermal bath (also lunch options) 🛁🍲
🕖 19h27 – Taking the bus from Leányfalu towards Budapest (changing in Szentendre)
🕕 20h55 – Arrival back at Budapest Batthyány tér metro station 🚇
